Do you enjoy summertime? Lush green grass, picnics, and family gatherings, and don’t forget it’s a perfect time for grilling. But some days those outdoor temperatures can creep into territory where you feel like you’re the one cooking on the grill instead of burgers and hot dogs.
When you reach the hottest days of summer, you want that sense of security knowing that your air conditioner is up to the task of keeping the inside of your home or business at a comfortable temperature.
A common question about air conditioners from owners is, “Why is my air conditioner leaking water?” If you happen to be one of those people then you’ve come to the right place. Today United Water Restoration Group of Westchester would like to take this time to talk about some of the reasons why your AC is leaking water, and what you can do about it.
Before we get into the potential causes of why your air conditioner could be leaking water, it’s important to note that all properly working air conditioners will have some forms of condensation associated with them.
On hotter days you can expect quite a bit more condensation than normal around the unit. Condensation is only considered problematic when you find that your AC is leaking water more than it should. Here are some of the common causes of excess air conditioner water leaking:
Sometimes your air conditioner’s filter can become clogged which can cause your evaporator coils to freeze. As a result, more water will be flowing to the drainage pan, and even overflowing in more serious situations.
Normal air condition operation includes regular water drainage. If this drain were to become clogged somewhere along the line, the drain will simply back up until you have a wet mess on your hands.
There are times when low levels of freon in your air conditioner are low, and failure to replace it to proper levels can lead to a loss of pressure that can cause internal freezing, which of course will cause a wet mess when it thaws and overflows the drain pan.
